Day of Giving is a big success

A local travel agency gave generously to an East Kilbride food bank as part of the firm’s Annual Day of Giving.
Barrhead Travel donated over 250 items to Loaves & Fishes to help struggling families over the summer holidays.
Each team member contributed by collecting boxes of non-perishable food items and hygiene products with efforts stretching to the team’s family, friends and customers.
EK store manager Jacqui Kelly said: “The Day of Annual Giving campaign was a great success in our store. The team, our family, our friends and our customers’ generosity allowed us to make a significant contribution to Loaves & Fishes.
“We want to do our best for our community and encourage others to do more too.”
Each of Barrhead Travel’s 37 retail stores and their head office teams participated in the campaign by donating money, food and time to food bank centres in their local area.
And, monetary donation stations were set up across all stores, allowing employees and customers alike to contribute a small donation.
Over 7000 items were collected company-wide and £1,100 donations made with more still coming in.
All donations were sent to Trussell Trust, a charity body with a network of over 1200 food bank centres in the UK.
The agency also made a breakthrough recently for headline Charity partner Just a Drop. Thanks to a recent payment of donations to focus project, Uganda Buwambo Health Centre, the charity was able to begin drilling for installation of a fresh water tank.
