Summer holiday adventures

-

A smaller entry from me this week as I submit this on my travels with family.

But whilst the submission may be constrained by time, the camera stays glued around my neck, ready to capture fantastic images of our stunning country.

And it doesn’t get much more impressive than the The Burrell Collection.

Highly successful businessman and international art collector, Sir William Burrell and his wife Constance generously gifted their collection to the people of Glasgow in 1944.

Born in 1861 and dying in 1958, Sir William had amassed a collection of some 9000 objects, which can now be enjoyed by the public at the specially built Burrell Collection in Pollok Country Park.

This opened in 1983 and served as a catalyst for the rejuvenation of Glasgow as a major cultural city. Once again, Burrell’s great legacy will help to transform Glasgow when the building reopens in spring 2021.

Next up was Castlemilk Stables; a refurbished 17th century stables block designed by David Hamilton and restored and repurposed by CassiltounTrust.

The stables were once a home for the horses and workers of the Stuart family fell into decline in the 20th century.

There are plenty of places to go during the summer holidays, including our very own James Hamilton Heritage Loch, which offers a fantastic walk, lots of wildlife and plenty of water sports on offer.

Nearby Linn Park is also a great place for a day out with the family, walking along the White Cart Water to Snuff Mill Bridge, then returning on the other side via the Battle of Langside memorial.
