Road is resurfaced ahead of schedule
Resurfacing works on a pothole-riddled road have been completed – with the promise of more improvements to come.
The property management company responsible for the running of St Leonards Square, Reith and Lambert, carried out works outside the petrol station and the adjacent junction.
Resurfacing work was completed ahead of schedule last week.
It did, however, see the temporary closure of Glen Moriston.
But this allowed contractors to plough on, completing the works within two days.
St Leonards Community Council along with local residents and businesses have been calling for some time for the crumbling road leading to the square to be improved.
And East Kilbride East councillor Gladys Miller is delighted improvements have been made.
She said: “The planning and logistics for the resurfacing of the road at St Leonards Square may have taken longer than that the actual work, however I do believe the efficient delivery was a result of the careful planning by South Lanarkshire Council and Reith and Lambert, the property managers for the square.
“There was a minimal disruption for two days and I believe the residents, including myself, accepted the short diversions knowing the new road surface would make such a difference to the look of the square.
“Between the newly resurfaced road and the beautiful planters provided by St Leonards Community Council, the square is looking great.”
And a spokesman for Reith and Lambert promised further work to improve the overall appearance of the square.
“We were delighted to complete the work ahead of schedule thanks to co-operation from the council,” he said.
“While the work to the carriageway has been completed, we are looking to make further improvements to the structure of the building we manage on the Square, although that will be on a year to year basis.
“We are looking to remove some of the rotting timbers on the Tesco building and just to generally improve the overall appearance of the Square.”
Meanwhile, we told you last week how a number of roads across South Lanarkshire are subject to closures and diversions as the council implements its road improvements scheme.
