Gnasher jailed for THIRD time for biting

-

An East Kilbride thug who has twice previously been jailed for biting is behind bars again after trying to sink his teeth into a copper.

Gnasher Craig Chalmers was jailed on Friday after he admitted trying to bite the officer’s arm whilst on early release from prison.

The incident occurred after the 22-year-old became aggressive during a police raid at an alleged disturbance at a house in Rydal Place, Newlandsmuir.

Prosecuter Mairi-Clare McMillan told Hamilton Sheriff Court how officers had asked Chalmers to leave, but that led to a“struggle and the accused became increasingly violent”.

Ms McMillan added:“He was making attempts to reach towards his sock. He was then taken to the ground but continued to thrash his body about.

“He made several attempts to bite an officer’s arm and hand. Another police unit was requested and eventually Chalmers was handcuffed and placed in a police vehicle.

“A small kitchen knife was found in his sock. It was apparent that this was what he was trying to reach for during the struggle.”

Court heard how snap happy Chalmers had been placed behind bars twice before – for biting the same man.

He was jailed for 18 months last year for snapping at the man’s finger and hitting him on the head with a brick.

The hungry horror had also previously been jailed for a year for biting off the tip of the same man’s nose. His latest attack happened on April 18.

Appearing at court from custody on Friday, Chalmers was locked up for nine months for resisting arrest while in possession of a knife.

Defence agent Ian Scott said Chalmers had a difficult upbringing and problem with alcohol. He said his client had also been diagnosed with a personality disorder.

Mr Scott added:“He realises he embarrassed himself. It could have had a significantly worse outcome.”
