YM hold Kilby’s reserves

-

East Kilbride YM’s Caledonian League side had mixed results this week as they wound up their pre-season campaign.

Ahead of the competitive kick-off this weekend, YM drew with an EKFC Reserve XI and lost to Harestanes.

In midweek they came from two goals down against the EKFC side to draw 3-3. EKFC had taken a two goal lead early in the game but YM pulled one back when Mikey Carroll closed down the keeper very quickly, allowing Ross McDonagh a tap in.

Early in the second half EKFC restored their two goal advantage with a superb 20-yard volley. Craig Tocher then outstripped the Kilby defence to pull one back for YM and in the closing stages Ross McDonagh equalised from the penalty spot.

Meanwhile, on Saturday YM were left to rue missed early chances as they lost 4-2 to a strong Harestanes side.

For long spells the sides matched each other with Harestanes twice taking the lead. But on both occasions YM equalised through David Kneale and McDonagh, with both scoring from the penalty spot.

Late in the game Harestanes’ experience showed and their pressure told with two late goals.

This Saturday YM start their League Cup campaign against Stenhousemuir at Hamilton Palace, kick off 1pm.

Elsewhere, YM’s Greater Glasgow Premier side defeated Glenburn 2-0 in the Barrhead Tournament on Friday evening thanks to a Josh Cairns double.

However, YM lost 3-2 in the final on Sunday to Barrhead Arkleston in a terrific match. Scott Forrest and Jack Ferguson were on the score sheet for YM.
