Help send club’s players to Special Olympics

-

Claremont Colts are celebrating after 14 of their players were selected to represent their country at the 2021 Special Olympics.

But the town’s disability football club now need to raise £5,000.

The Games will be held in Liverpool between August 3 and 8, 2021, and Claremont are hoping local folk will get behind the boys taking part.

Representing the Scotland West squad will be Ryan Aitken, Mathew Farrell, Nathan Barnes, Dylan Moffat, Euan Rarity, Patrick McKenzie, Jamie Rinn, Martin Russell, Alan Ferguson, Lewis Bennie, Ewan McMoneagle, Cameron Holliman, Adam Strachan and Scott Rice.

Claremont coaches Elaine Rinn and Stevie Moffat will also be supporting the national set-up down south.

Over 2000 athletes will take part in a wide range of sports that also includes athletics, boccia, gymnastics, swimming and the Motor Activities Training Programme for people with multiple cognitive disabilities.

Around 1.5 million people in the UK (two per cent of the population) have an intellectual disability and the Special Olympics is the showpiece domestic event every four years for the Special Olympics GB organisation and its athletes.

Claremont Colts coach Stevie Moffat said: “To help meet the costs involved we will be fundraising so that all selected players will get to take part in this great opportunity. We will be arranging fundraising events and we are looking for people to get involved.”
