Two East Kilbride friends are to brave the shave for Macmillan.

Carol Burns, 46, and Jan Orr, 31, are raising money for the cancer charity in memory of loved ones who have passed away to the disease.

Jan is the owner of Irving Healy Hair in East Kilbride.

Carol and Jan met each other around nine years ago, when Jan became Carols’ hairdresser.

Jan lost her aunt Liz as well as a close client, Eleanor McTaggart, to cancer not long ago.

Carol said: “Eleanor was a close client of Jan and she shaved her hair off for her when she got ill.

“She does a lot of peoples hair for them when they have cancer.

“I think she wants to show people how much she cares.”

Carol has herself lost loved ones to cancer.

She said: “I lost my motherin-law Kathleen, my aunt Chris and both my grandparents Eva and Bill Steele.

“We have both been badly affected by the disease and we want to do our part to help those who have it.”

Carol regularly gets her hair done by Jan in the salon, and says her hair is her “pride and joy”.

And she says people “still cannot believe” the pair have signed up to brave the shave.

Carol added: “I get my hair done nearly every week with Jan and it really is my everything.”

So far the girls have raised just over £1000 collectivley and hope to raise even more in the coming weeks.

Carol said: “The day of the big shave is November 24.

“Jan will open up the salon at 2pm in preparation for the big shave at 3pm.

“All our family and friends will be there for a fun day.”
