A wheelie good way to round of health week

Pupils at Auldhouse Primary School have finished their Health Week with a sponsored cycle at Whitelee Windfarm to stay healthy while raising funds for the school.

The rural school held their annual Health Week which focused on physical health as well as their mental health and wellbeing.

The children enjoyed a range of activities from swimming, tennis and handball coaching to fitness sessions, mind workshops and nutritional advice.

The Parent Council arranged a sponsored cycle at Whitelee Windfarm to encourage children to get outside and keep fit along with their families.

Chairman Scott Macphail said: “We thought there was no better way to mark the end of Health Week than by having a sponsored cycle event at the windfarm.

“It’s a great opportunity for us all to continue with the health theme for the children by cycling and being outdoors.

“It’s also an ideal opportunity to improve the health of the school funds. It’s been a great event enjoyed by all.”

Acting head teacher Heather McVey arranged a jam-packed timetable for Health Week focusing on the importance of both a healthy body and mind.

She said: “The children have really engaged with the range of topics and activities concerning their physical, emotional and mental health.

“We are so grateful to all the support we’ve had from families and local clubs and coaches.

“Active Schools delivered a family fun session which coincided with their ‘she can, she will’ campaign to encourage women into sport.

“Karen Gibb, of Mind Marvels, delivered sessions to both parents and the children to help them manage their mental health.

“The parent council are hoping that money raised from the sponsored cycle will be used to fund other trips or buy useful resources to engage the children in their learning.”
