Eaglesham nursery on course for 2020 opening
East Renfrewshire Council say they are happy with how work to develop a new nursery in Eaglesham is progressing.
Work to build a 120 place nursery within the grounds of Eaglesham Primary begun in earnest in June, with a skeletal structure now visible.
Once completed, the nursery will link to the main building via a corridor and will replace the existing 60 place nursery class within the school.
The council say it will also provide improved parking and drop-off facilities.
An spokesman for the council said: “Since work started in June, the project to build the new Eaglesham Primary nursery class is progressing well and will open as planned for the start of the August 2020 session.
“This 120 place nursery, which will be linked to the main school building, will provide a fabulous facility for our youngest learners.
“We are committed to providing the very best learning environment for all the children and young people in East Renfrewshire and this project will deliver just that for our residents.”
Eaglesham is one of five sites to benefit from a £23m funding pot made available for the development of a new early childhood education centre.
It joins Busby, Overlee, Glenwood and Crookfur – three of the sites will operate as family centres providing childcare for 50 weeks of the year as per requirement.
And it is expected all five of the sites will be open and operational for August 2020, taking in children for the start of term.
As part of the work to create new nursery facilities the council is also proposing to incorporate improved community and sports facilities within two of the centres.
Local authorities currently provide 600 free hours a year which increase to 1140, a rise of around 30 hours per week.
That will match the time children spend each week in primary school.
