East Kilbride Community Foodbank are also launching their Christmas appeals.

Like the EK News, they are running a reverse advent calendar and are also looking to raise £3750 through a JustGiving fund to provide more than 250 Christmas hampers for those in need within East Kilbride.

Karen Dornan, from the foodbank, told the News: “We are excited to be launching our Reverse Advent Calendar again this year.

“The idea behind the reverse advent calendar is to encourage people to give rather than receive during advent.

“We have had an amazing response from the community over the last few years, it’s a great way to get the whole family involved in giving this Christmas, children love getting involved.

“These donations are especially needed at this time of year which is always a busier season for foodbanks as people have to make decisions over where to eat or heat their homes.

“During December last year we distributed over 500 food parcels to over 350 adults and over 120 children.

“We also distributed hampers to over 250 households in East Kilbride the week before Christmas.

“It is our privilege to be able to serve the community in this way and draw alongside people in their time of need but could not do it without the amazing generosity of those who support us with donations and their time.”

The hampers are packed with everything a family needs for Christmas day dinner and each cost £15 to put together.

Any money over and above the community foodbank’s target for the hampers will be used to help towards its ongoing work.

To donate go to www. justgiving.com/campaign/ EKChristmashampers

For the reverse advent calendar pick a box (empty bottle boxes available at most supermarkets work well) then on each day of Advent add an item to your box.

After Advent deliver your box to EK Community Foodbank at any of its donation points which can be found at www. calderwoodbaptist.co.uk/ Foodbank
