Work has started on the potential development of almost 400 houses by CALA Homes in Jackton.

The housing developer was given permission to start work in 2020 to deliver 173 homes in the area.

That has seen them implement traffic control measures on the road between Jackton and Eaglesham to allow for the construction of an access road.

And the developers already have an application in for another 167 houses in the area.

If given the go-ahead, that would see the creation of 78 homes and 69 flats on the site just off of Eaglesham

Road on the land across from Jackton Cottage.

It’s part of a significant investment by the company that will see the creation of a new primary school, play areas, green space and a smallscale retail area.

Fraser Dick, development manager for the firm, said: “This is a really exciting development for CALA.

“It will support South Lanarkshire Council’s (SLC) vision of achieving socially, environmentally and economically sustainable communities.

“The site has been earmarked for residential development for more than 10 years, so to now officially be on-site and get underway is a landmark that we’re proud to be a part of.

“We are closely engaging with local councillors, residents and businesses regarding works to ensure key stakeholders and those affected are kept informed of progress.”

Part of the East Kilbride community growth area, the major development will support the delivery of an expected 250 affordable homes, including 21 sheltered housing flats, as local demand for housing continues to rise.

Initial works undertaken by CALA include the construction of the first phase of a spine road that will serve the whole site and eventually connect Jackton to Lindsayfield.

A primary road – located at the junction of Eaglesham Road and Jackton Road –the route will be developed and funded by SLC and is expected to open in 2021.

Part of a consortium plan for the creation of a high-quality, residential-led development – led by SLC – approximately 1950 homes could be developed in the area by CALA, Lynch Homes and Abbey Developments.

The development could be joined by another six houses off Jackton Road, adjacent to Eaglesham.

CALA says they are undergoing a period of consultation with elected members and local residents.
