Rachael hopes to prove she’s a cut above again

An East Kilbride hairdresser is certainly a cut above – and is hoping to win a prestigious award for the second year in a row.
Rachael Pye, 27, from Calderwood, is a finalist in the Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards which are being held next month in Glasgow.
The talented stylist picked up the top prize last year and was runner-up in 2017.
She runs a mobile hairdressing company in the town – Rachael’s Mobile Hairdressing – and can’t wait for this year’s glittering event which brings together top stylists from across the country.
She told the News: “It’s amazing that I have made it to the finals again – I am absolutely delighted.
“The top 10 are picked through nominations from customers which makes it all the more special.
“I have been working in the industry since I was 15 and I just love it. I just enjoy making people feel better about themselves more than anything.”
And it was a chance vocation course at school which got her started in hairdressing.
“I originally wanted to be a primary school teacher,” Rachael continued.
“But there was a chance to do one afternoon a week vocational training when I was at school and I thought, why not, it’s a bit of time out of classes.
“I just kind of randomly picked hairdressing and from the first day I was hooked and I knew that’s what I wanted to do. I have never looked back.”
And she said that she is looking forward to catching up with other stylists at the awards.
She added: “I am not too nervous to be honest, I am just really excited.
“I have got to know people from attending the last couple of years and it will be great to catch up with them all and have a good night out.
“If I win again this year it will be an added bonus and would be a great achievement.”
The awards bash is being held on Sunday, December 8 in the DoubleTree by Hilton.
