EKYM fire five past Dalziel

-

East Kilbride YM moved up to third in the Caledonian League after a five-star showing at home to Dalziel.

YM players took to the field with manager Graeme Robertson’s words of warning that last week’s dismal second half, which saw them crash out the West of Scotland Cup, would not be tolerated.

And they responded in style – scoring twice in the opening six minutes.

Ryan Kelly and Jordan Fletcher combined well out left and when Fletcher crossed into the box, Craig Tocher laid the ball on a plate for midfielder David Cameron to score with a shot from 12 yards.

Things got worse for the visitors when David Kneale pressurised the keeper into a hurried clearance, which was pounced on 30 yards from goal by Fletcher and his glorious chip shot sailed high into the net.

Dalziel were shell shocked but, to their credit, they rallied, although YM defenders did their jobs and repelled the attacks.

The second half started with Dalziel in the ascendency but once again YM defended well and struck another blow when David Cameron headed Kneale’s corner into the net for a third goal.

Tocher compounded their misery, closing down the keeper and stroking the ball into the net for the fourth before YM full back Craig Kincaid finished the scoring when his cross eluded everyone and ended up in the net.

This was a particularly pleasing performance from YM, who travel to Fife on Saturday to play Bowhill Rovers in the fourth round of the Sottish Amateur Cup. The bus leaves Kirktonholme at 10.45am for anyone wishing to attend.

Finally, YM’S GGPL table topping side will play third place South Lochaber United at 2pm at Kirktonholme.
