GREENS - ERICA BRADLEY-YOUNG

-

If you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything. That phrase shows how health must become a key measure of our country’s success.

We’ve had decades of politicians of other colours focusing on growth aim in itself, rather than health, wellbeing or protecting the environment we all rely on.

This narrow focus on growth above all else has led again and again to bad decisions and poor health for people in our communities.

Scotland can do so much better and this needs the kind of leadership which elected Greens bring.

When I worked as a nutritional consultant , I witnessed first-hand the devastating impact of poor health on individuals, families and communities and I pledge to you that I will do everything to help you and your family be healthier and happier.

Elected Greens and campaigners have continually defended one of our most treasured national assets, the NHS, against the winds that are buffeting it from all directions.

We’ve challenged the mistaken belief that bringing in the private sector is the answer. We’ve campaigned to review PFI contracts which continue to cripple front line services.

We supported the development and national roll out of Healthier, Wealthier Families supporting midwives and health visitors to help parents maximise income.

I will work hard to stop our efficient but struggling NHS from further threats from privatisation, Brexit and the US pharmaceutical industry.

Social care must be effectively integrated into the NHS and a conversation about how to properly resource it is urgent. The solutions to these questions undoubtedly involve changes to how our economy and labour market. I believe a more socially just and sustainable future is a healthy future.
