East Kilbride’s new caretaker boss David Proctor reckons being underdogs for their league clash with BSC Glasgow helped them exact their revenge for last month’s Scottish Cup defeat.

David Brownlie’s effort, Craig Malcolm’s penalty and a deadly double from Winter secured EK’s 11th win of the season.

Kilby were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by their Lowland League rivals last month and just days after seeing caretaker manager Jim Paterson walk out the door, David Proctor and Craig Malcolm stepped in to lead the side to an emphatic victory over 10man BSC.

Three goals inside the first 21 minutes stunned BSC, who had Ross Smith sent off for bringing down Paton in the box.

And after starting with a win, Proctor said: “It could have worked either way playing against BSC, having beaten us in the Scottish Cup last month.

“Some people might have looked at it with a bit of trepidation.

“But from myself and Craig’s point of view, we felt we could go into the game as underdogs for probably the first time since we’ve been involved at East Kilbride.

“It was quite a unique situation and the pressure was off to a certain extent. “It meant the boys could play with a bit of freedom and it looked like the shackles were off.

“It was an all-round good performance and given the unrest during the week, they did brilliantly.”

EK now head to Civil Service Strollers tonight (7.45pm kick-off) and then Edinburgh on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

Proctor added: “To get over that first hurdle is a huge boost and we go into the Civil game on a real high.

“They’ll have other ideas obviously. Gary Jardine has his teams very well organised, so it’s going to be a very difficult venue to go to when boys are finishing work and we are trying to get the bus organised to get through.”
