EK mum’s veg patch business is in bloom

A groundbreaking new service that makes it easy for busy working families to grow their own veg at home is set to launch in East Kilbride.

Green-fingered mum Laura Molloy is the founder of Goody Foody Gardens – the UK’s first ‘build-anywhere veg patch’.

Available at the click of a button, it will help families who would love to grow their own food, but just don’t have the time or know how.

Uniquely, the service will come with on-hand support from local expert growers, including final year horticulture students from South Lanarkshire College.

Laura is crowdfunding to reach the £10,000 needed to kickstart her business – and is more than halfway there.

Laura, who is originally from EK but now lives in Giffnock, told the News: “As the founder, and mother to a brood of three, I share all the same concerns as most parents; too much plastic packaging, too much screen time, not getting outdoors enough, a desire for my kids to eat healthily and understand where their food comes from.

“As the antidote to this I tried to grow my own veg in the garden during my last maternity leave. I had no knowledge, no time to learn, no support and I gave up when I returned to work.

“My desire to learn and get started had not diminished, I just needed something that would fit it into my busy life.

“To test the idea and process, we ran a pilot study with families and local experienced growers. This allowed us to refine the process, understand what worked and didn’t work for the families and what was needed by the growers to ensure the raised beds could be built and maintained to achieve optimum results. The pilot was a resounding success.”

Launching in April, the service will allow families to get their own vegetable garden started.

Everything they need will be delivered to the home including a wooden raised bed, soil, plug plants, seeds, and accessories.
