Entriesopen forMemorial RoadRace
This year’s Tom Scott Memorial Road Races will take place at Strathclyde Park on Sunday, April 5.
Organisers Law and District Amateur Athletics Club invite runners of all abilities and ages to go along to the event, which is in its 58th year.
The main race, the Tom Scott memorial 10-mile Open Road Race, is run in memory of a fine marathon runner from Law Village, who was an Olympic contender and often competed in major races throughout Great Britain.
Tom could be seen most days running to and from his work in Motherwell, but was sadly killed in a motoring accident while travelling to an event in England.
This year’s event will be included as the only 10-mile event in Scottish Athletics’Grand Prix series of road races.
With the race upgraded to Scottish 10-mile Championship status and the West District Road Racing Committee holding their closed 10-mile Championship events within the main event, a record number of entries are anticipated.
For those who feel that a 10-mile championship event is not for them, there is a 6k‘Round the Loch’race incorporated into the main event.
Both courses – which have been accurately measured – will be run on almost traffic-free routes.
With a fast, flat, winding course around Strathclyde Loch, they are perfect for setting fast times.
Registration or declarations for both races takes place at the Water Sports Centre within Strathclyde Park, from 8.30am to 9.30am.
Changing facilities and showers are available and included in the entry fee.
Competitors can enter online at www.tomscottroadraces.com where full details of the event can also be obtained.
