Westwood boxer David Jamieson has signed for a new promoter as he targets breaking into the UK’s top 10 next year.

Covid-19 restrictions have kept the 28-year-old cruiserweight out of the ring for five months and during that time he has switched from Prospect Boxing to Sam Kynoch’s Kynoch Boxing Promotions, which he hopes will pave the way for some big bouts in 2021.

Jamieson appeared on BT Sport’s Ultimate Boxxer line-up in 2019 and hopes the Kynoch connection can raise his profile.

He said: “My contract with Paul Graham at Prospect boxing was coming to a close and so the natural move for me at this point in my career was to sign with Sam Kynoch at Kynoch Boxing.

“Sam currently has the largest, most active stable of boxers in Scotland, consistently securing his fighters great opportunities on big television shows down south on both Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom shows and Frank Warren’s Queensberry promotions shows.

“This will benefit me greatly at this point in my career as Sam has great contacts and, with me sitting currently at 13th in the British rankings, we are looking to press on for titles next year, so there’s some exciting nights ahead

“When you break into the top 10 he’s got the connections to land the big fights for you.

“It’s a big year ahead, but it’s all subject to Government regulations.

“Sam is hoping to get us out late September or October and when he gets the green light to run shows, he’s looking to get as many of his fighters on as he can.”

As for many sportsmen and women, it’s been a frustrating period out of action.

He added: “You are always trying to stay ready and be optimistic, but, let’s face it, the year is pretty much gone.

“With regards to sparring and return to gyms, it’s the end of September before they might reopen, so you’ve just got to be realistic about things.

“Hopefully I can get a fight under my belt before the end of the year, get out sharp in 2021 and in the spring next year press on for titles.”
