Lot­tery grant for food char­ity

A char­ity which de­liv­ers free plant-based food to vul­ner­a­ble peo­ple in East Kil­bride has been given a £5000 cash boost.

ISKCON Scotland re­ceived the award from The Na­tional Lot­tery Com­mu­nity Fund for their Food for Scotland project.

Food for Scotland are now dis­tribut­ing free plant-based food in East Kil­bride, Glas­gow, Hamil­ton and La­nark to home­less shel­ters and ho­tels, asy­lum seek­ers, refugee cen­tres and res­i­den­tial cen­tres for those with more com­plex needs.

Vol­un­teers are cur­rently serv­ing 700 meals per week, over 5000 since the be­gin­ning of May.

With this grant Food for Scotland were able to in­crease the fre­quency of de­liv­er­ies and have ex­panded into new ar­eas.

In­spired by their ex­am­ple, ISKCON Scotland started the re­lief project Food for Scotland in 2018 to pro­vide hot, nu­tri­tious, plant-based meals for those in need.
