Lottery grant for food charity
A charity which delivers free plant-based food to vulnerable people in East Kilbride has been given a £5000 cash boost.
ISKCON Scotland received the award from The National Lottery Community Fund for their Food for Scotland project.
Food for Scotland are now distributing free plant-based food in East Kilbride, Glasgow, Hamilton and Lanark to homeless shelters and hotels, asylum seekers, refugee centres and residential centres for those with more complex needs.
Volunteers are currently serving 700 meals per week, over 5000 since the beginning of May.
With this grant Food for Scotland were able to increase the frequency of deliveries and have expanded into new areas.
Inspired by their example, ISKCON Scotland started the relief project Food for Scotland in 2018 to provide hot, nutritious, plant-based meals for those in need.
