Man who put ex-partner ‘through hell’ fined £200

Victim says only non-harassment order makes her feel safe

An East Kilbride man who told his exgirlfriend he hoped to find that she had killed herself has been hit with a fine.

We told you last month how George Stewart was convicted of a series of vile attacks on the woman, telling her he wanted to “ruin” his ex-partner.

In one deplorable message he told her that he wanted to find her “hanging like your mad mother”.

Appearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, the 58-year-old was fined just £200, plus £10 to be paid into the national victim surcharge fund.

He was also given a non-harassment order for two years.

Speaking exclusively to the News last month, his ex-partner told us how she had been left devastated after Stewart’s campaign of hatred, with her deluded ex even threatening to make up a story about her being a classroom drunk.

His victim said: “I have had such a terrible time – I am actually devastated.

“After we broke up, all I wanted was for him to leave me alone.

“I didn’t want to get the police involved in the first place.

“I ended the relationship and he put me through Hell. He left me scared of him, I had no choice.

“He said that he was going to make sure that I had no job, no house and no friends.

“Everything he has said is untrue, he is trying to say the worst possible things to break me.

“It’s all nonsense and having the bail conditions in place are the only thing that makes me feel safe.”

Embittered Stewart volleyed abuse and threats at his victim over two days on April 13 and 14.

It started with text messages accusing her of cheating then calls demanding a meeting to confront her.

His victim says that he even found the address of every man in East Kilbride whose name matched that of her new partner, stalking the houses until he saw her at one.

Stewart claimed his ex had turned up to her work as a primary teacher drunk and that she had cheated on him – all of these accusations his former partner insist are untrue.

The court heard how, in a brazen move, Stewart even emailed his claims to the EK News telling his ex: “You brought this on yourself by treating me like sh*t.

“I hope one day you’re found hanging like your mad mother.

“I hope I never see you again.”

A teacher for 10 years, Stewart’s victim said that her job is ‘everything’ to her and that she would “never do anything to jeopardise it”.

Such was her dedication to her job and fear over Stewart, she highlighted the issue to her head teacher, warning the school of the accusations being levied against her.

The tearful victim told the News that she has “been through a lot” over the last five years, including the loss of her mum – something Stewart knew affected her massively.

She said: “My mum took her own life and I’ve been through Hell. He knows how much that affected my family. But he’s even said that he can’t wait to read in the paper that I’m found in the same way that my mum was.

“I thought that I knew him, but I am actually scared of him.”

Everything he has said is untrue, he is trying to say the worst possible things to try to break me...
