‘Gregor’s Song’ was played at his funeral
A song especially recorded for Gregor was played at his funeral.
Recorded by Jim Duncan, ‘Gregor’s Song’was a way of marking the teenager’s 18th birthday.
More than that, it marked the special bond between Gregor and mum Lainey.
Written and recorded in a week, the song pays homage to Gregor’s love of motor racing and speaks of his last race.
But rather than aiming to finish first, Gregor’s focus is on a very important pit-stop – a stop to embrace his mother once more.
And in doing that, he will have truly won the race.
Musician Jim, who runs A Song
For you and has been performing ‘Live in The Shed’throughout lockdown, spoke with the News about the song.
He said:“Gregor’s story was one like no other and I tried to do it justice. It was a really difficult song to write and took longer than usual. I definitely shed a few tears writing it.
“The thing that came across to me was the strong bond between him and his mother, so the song is framed around a race as a metaphor.
“As much as it was a song for Gregor, it was one for his mum too – I wanted to make sure it would be a fond memory of her.”
Jim added:“I hope it can help keep his memory alive
