Tributes pour in for much-loved youngster

-

Popular Gregor touched the lives of so many people and tributes for the beloved youngster have flooded in this week.

He was very close with his brother Michael and cousins Robert and Scott McLean.

Robert told the News of his cousin’s selflessness and support, in particular when he had signed up to run the Men’s 10k in Glasgow last year.

Running to raise money for the Beatson Cancer Charity, he told us:“The race was on a Sunday morning and happened to be father’s day too.

“We had had a birthday the day before and Gregor said to me he wouldn’t be able to make the race, but he wished me luck and told me to smash it.

“So the day of the race, I thought it would just be my partner Stephanie and my mum at the finishing line.

“But when I crossed the line, the whole gang were waiting for me, all dressed in the yellow Beatson colours.

“Getting to share that moment with Gregor is one I will cherish forever.”

Robert also remembers heading to watch ice hockey with his cousin when he was a patient at the Queen Elizabeth.

The family watched Glasgow Clan play the Belfast Giants after Gregor was given special dispensation to attend the match, which was

secondary to family time together.

Robert added:“He was so excited and couldn’t wait to get a replica jerseys, but they were sold out, so he went for a hoodie instead!

“A few weeks after the match, myself

and Stephanie went to Braehead to see if we could get Gregor the replica jersey.

“We will always be extremely grateful to the people working for the Clan who made a few calls for us – we were able to get him his purple home jersey and a

Clan snapback for good measure.”

Cousin Scott said his favourite memories with Gregor were on Christmas day and his surprise performances for everyone.

Scott said:“In my eyes, it was the most anticipated event of the year, just to see what he would come up with next.

“My favourite was when he showed us a Russian-inspired dance that had us laughing for the rest of the night.

“The truth is, it didn’t really matter what he did, he was just always able to have me in tears of laughter anyway. Gregor was unique.

“There will be a massive hole left in our lives, and it will be a lot quieter without him around, but he brought enough joy and entertainment to last many lifetimes.”

At his funeral, best friend Lewis Bennie had a special tribute for his friend read out.

It said:“I will miss all the times we spent together like Knockhill and Glasgow and St Andrews – and the Just Eat, and pool.

“You were like a brother to me – I loved Gregor so much.

“I will cherish all the times and memories Gregor and I created together – I will continue to love and keep his memory alive.”
