Town probus club cancel season following Coronavirus spread
A popular East Kilbride club say they have been forced to cancel their forthcoming season.
East Kilbride Probus Club would normally be announcing its next season of talks, visits and social events however they have taken a decision to cancel their next entire season.
The club’s committee have had Zoom meetings and many phone calls about season 2020 to 2021.
However, after reading about the latest spike in Covid-19 cases in some areas of Scotland they have taken the decision, as they only run from October to April, to cancel the next entire season entirely.
A spokesperson for the club said: “We apologise for having to make this decision but due to the recent news and Government guidance, it is important, that as a club, our priority is not to put our committee, members and members families at any risk. Safety comes first.”
There was also some doubt as to hall availability and many of their members are all aged in their 70s and 80s which contributed to the decision.
The spokesman continued: “Despite the works of our hard working secretary there was also some doubt over the availability of some of our speakers.
“With so many imponderables, it was reluctantly agreed to leave re-starting until October 2021 when everybody hopes that a vaccine will have been found and they will have returned to a‘ normal’ life style.
“However please keep an eye on the press should any further changes take place. The probus club look forward to opening their doors and welcoming everybody back in October 2021.”
