Mum saddles up again to complete challenge

Elizabeth-Anne’s gruelling virtual London2Par­is cycle for Lee

The i nspiration­al motto of an East Kilbride schoolboy will live on when his mum once again saddles-up for charity.

Elizabeth-Anne Holmes lost her 12-year-old son Lee Jamieson to leukaemia in August 2014 aft er a ninemonth battle with the disease.

His family set up Live it for Lee in his name which raises vital funds for Blood Cancer UK.

In 2018 Elizabeth-Anne, from Westwood, took part i n t he epic London2Par­is fundraiser – a whopping 500 kilometres over three-anda-half days – raising nearly £3000 for the cause.

And she has looked out her bike once again af t er a rallying call f rom Blood Cancer UK, who – like charities up and down the country – have been crippled by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the situation placing t heir l i f e-s avi ng re s earch and work in limbo.

Elizabeth-Anne hopes to complete a local version of L ondon2Pari­s with t hose who took part in the 2018 e v e nt a n d s u p p o r t e r s o f the charity tasked with c o mple t i n g 3 0 0 mi l e s i n 3 0 d a y s i n t h e mont h o f September.

S h e s a i d : “S o, h a v i n g thought I would never do t his again, I have just got myself into yet another local version of London2Par­is for this Incredible charity.

“The work that this charity funds makes the difference be t ween be i ng t he mum that gets to bring their child home again, and the mum who doesn’t.

“With everyone’s support, every bum-busting pedal I take, is helping to take us all one step closer to beating blood cancers.”

Elizabeth-Anne has already begun the journey and is planning further cycles to get her to the end of the challenge.

She is hoping businesses can possibly get on board through donations or sponsorshi­p, and has set up a JustGiving page for those who wish to donate.

T h e d e t e r mi n e d mum a d mi t t e d i t i s more o r a daunting challenge this time round having vowed to never repeat it after reaching the finishing line in 2018.

Eli zabeth-Anne added: “I realised after spending a weekend on my bike for the first time in two years that I need all the motivation I can get in order to keep going and complete this challenge.

“It is so much more difficult this tome around and you can never overlook the importance of padded shorts.”

Elizabeth-Anne has encountere­d a few bumps in the road so far – including an allergic reaction and cycling 61. 5 miles wit h her f ro nt brake locked on – but she is determined to keep going.

“I n my he a r t o f he a r t s I c oul dn’ t not do i t ,” s he added.

“As s oon as t he char i t y put out the plea I could see no reason why I couldn’t or shouldn’t,” she added.

“It is such a hard time for people and appreciate any support I can get and keen to see if any business can get behind me.”
