‘Never say never’ to shock Bryson move

- MARK PIRIE

East Kilbride boss Stevie Aitken admits he would be “never say never”to bringing Craig Bryson to his hometown team af ter leaving Aberdeen.

The 33-year-old midfielder had his contract at Pittodrie ripped up with nine months remaining after an injuryplagued spell at the club.

Last week gaffer Derek McInnes said the call had been made with “a heavy heart” after his luckless spell with the Dons following his move from Derby last year.

S o f a r t h i s s u mmer A i t k e n h a s convinced the likes of Chris Erskine, Paul Paton and Kyle Hutton to make the drop to K-Park and would love to add the EK native to the list.

He confirmed that he was looking to add “at least three” new players to the squad before the big kick-off next month.

As a fresh-faced teenager Bryson was named Player of the Year across town at the Showpark before he made his breakthrough at Clyde.

However, he e x pect s t he f or mer Kilmarnock and Cardiff star to have plenty of suitors above tier five.

He told the News: “He is a quality player who plays at the very top of the tree so any team in Scotland would be interested in him.

“We haven’t made the call but we are quite happy with where we are at the moment, but when players become available we look at it and do our due dilligence.

“The l evel t hat Craig Br yson has played at I’m sure he won’t be short of a few options, and will be a higher level than we are at.

“At t h e e n d o f t h e d a y , n o b o d y thought we would sign Chris Erskine and Paul Paton but we got to speak to them and tell them the vision of where the club is going to go.

“In football you can say never say never. You never know what is round the corner and we’re looking in all the markets.

“If we think that something can be done we will do it, but a player like Craig is a top, top player. I don’t doubt he will find a Premiership club if he wants that.”

He went on: “We are still looking to add at least three new players before the season starts.

“When we are going through preseason we will have a look and maybe can add one or two more but I would say we are three players short.

“I f any pl ayers we want become available we will try to get them tied up.”
