Community’s thanks to mystery gardener keeping place tidy

- EMYLIE HOWIE

The kindhearted nature of an East Kilbride man who takes pride in the community has been praised by locals.

Known locally as the‘mystery gardener’, Colin, has gained some attention from locals who admire the hard-work he puts in to keeping the town looking clean and tidy.

One lady was so impressed by Colin’s efforts whilst in the town last week that she stopped to speak with him.

Sandra McIver told the News:“I was on my way home from the town centre when I saw a man weeding the pavement in the underpass at Debenhams.

“I commented that he was doing a grand job and we got chatting.

“I assumed he was a council groundsman but it turned out that he is just a local man named Colin, who takes pride in keeping the area tidy.

“He even tidies up after the council come round and cut the grass.

“I had never met the man before but I am taken aback by his dedication and passion in keeping our town looking good.

“I think he deserves a bit of recognition for his community spirit.”

And Sandra feels that sharing Colin’s community spirit may encourage others to help look after the areas that they live in, she added:“It is such a lovely thing for Colin to do and it really brightened my day.

“This is the good news we all love to hear and see especially in these uncertain coronavirus circumstances.

“I hope it also encourages more people to take a leaf out of Colin’s book and encourages others to take pride in their local community.”
