Accused, 25, faces string of charges

-

An East Kilbride man has been accused of speeding away from the police in a vehicle carrying two young children who were not in secure car seats.

Robert Brown, 25, of Glen Lethnot, faced a string of charges when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

It’s alleged he drove a car dangerously and while disqualified on roads including Newhousemill Road, East Kilbride, on September 24.

Brown is accused of failing to stop for the police, travelling at excessive speed and veering on to the wrong side of the road when it was unsafe.

Children aged four and one were allegedly in the car without being secured properly.

Lauren Lafferty, 30, who shares the same address, is accused of allowing Brown to drive without a licence and attempting to pervert the course of justice by switching seats and claiming she was the driver.

It’s further alleged that both accused placed the children at risk with their journey and that the infants endured dirty conditions at the house in Glen Lethnot.

The charge states bedding and clothing was dirty, rotting food was left on plates and there were soiled nappies on a bedroom floor.

Both are also accused of shouting abuse at police while Brown is charged with assaulting two officers and resisting arrest.

It’s further alleged that he drove while disqualified on Queensway, East Kilbride, on September 13.

Brown pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on bail ahead of trial on December 14.

Lafferty did not appear in court and the case is expected to call against her at a later date.
