Almost 100 new EK virus cases just last week

A total of 450 cases of Covid-19 were confi r med ac r oss t he region last week with 92 of them being in East Kilbride and Avondale.

The cases were confirmed across the region last week and a new map p u b l i s h e d by Pu b l i c Hea l t h S c o t l a nd has re v e a l e d how t hos e cases break down across dif f erent neighbourh­oods.

In t he week from Monday, September 28, to Sunday, October 4, the Hamilton area had 222 of the 450 cases in South Lanarkshir­e.

It has a rate of 2.19 cases for every 1 0 0 0 re s i dent s - a nd 2 1 o f t he 4 6 neighbourh­oods across the region with at least one case per 1000 residents are in the Hamilton area.

Rutherglen and Cambuslang saw an average of 1. 31 c as es per 1000 residents last week while East Kilbride and Avondale (0.96) and Clydesdale (0.87) had lower rates of coronaviru­s.

Last week, East Kilbride and Avondale had 92 new coronavir us cases while there were 83 in Rutherglen and Cambuslang and 53 in Clydesdale.

Hamilton Centre and Low Parks was the neighbourh­ood with the most confirmed cases last week with 25.

Larkhall Central, Raploch, Mi l l h e u g h a n d B u r n h e a d ( 2 0 ) , Glassford, Quarter and Allanton (16), Strutherhi­ll (13), Little Earnock (12), Hareleeshi­ll (11), Bothwell South (10) and Silvertonh­ill (10) in the Hamilton area as well as Halfway, Hallside and Drumsagard (17) and Bankhead South (10) in Rutherglen and Cambuslang plus Nerston and EK Landward area ( 1 2 ) a nd St onehouse ( 1 2 ) i n Eas t Kilbride and Avondale, all saw at least 10 new cases last week.

In Clydesdale, Crossford, Braidwood and Yieldshiel­ds recorded the highest number of cases last week at eight.

There were three neighbourh­oods which recorded no new coronaviru­s cases last week - Burnside and S p r i n g h a l l ; C a r l u k e We s t a n d Clydesdale South.
