New book is a thriller

Debut novel full of surprises

A debut novelist from East Kilbride i s h o p i n g t o ke e p h e r r e a d e r s guessing.

And Paula Johnston, 29, from Greenhills i s f ulf i l l i ng a l i f eti me ambition with t he publicatio­n of her first book – The Lies She Told.

The novel is dark, intense and gripping psychologi­cal thriller following one strongwill­ed young woman and her determinat­ion to get the man she desires most.

It’s a quest that takes a dramatic turn, as forces young Karly had never thought of begin to interrupt her plan.

Pa u l a p r e v i o u s l y w o r k e d i n retail management administra­tion but last year was diagnosed with a chronic illness.

That has seen her focussing her attentions on her writing, with her first book gaining a positive reception since going on sale on Amazon.

Paula told the News: “I’m delighted with the feedback I have had so far.

“I have always loved writing and used to make up stories for my gran when I was a little girl and think they were fantastic.

“I always wanted to write a book and studied journalism briefly.

“But for years and years put if off and then thought “I’m going to do it and stick with it.

“It’s taken a year and a half but I have got there.”

She went on: “It went out on Amazon in August and without any real publicity its managed to sell 200 copies which.

“I am absolutely delighted with how it’s going.

“It was surreal seeing a book with my name on it but I am now moving on to thinking about book number two.”

The creative process is something that Paula enjoys.

“I read a lot of books of the same genre and quite often I guessed what was happening before it did, “she added.

“I wanted to create something that keeps the reader guessing.

“I really enjoy the whole creative process to be honest.

“I can start writing and before I know it nine hours have passed.”

And her fascinatio­n with the human psyche now crosses over into her debut novel.

Paul a hopes t hi s wi l l be t he s t a r t of something big for her as she intends to write more titles.

She is also contemplat­ing moving across to self-help books for those suffering with chronic illnesses.

When not writing Paula likes to read, spend quality time with friends and family and her partner and discover interestin­g new places.
