EK travel firm are on the road again to new home

A new travel store has opened up in East Kilbride town centre.

Dav i d Urq u ha r t T r av e l we r e f o r c e d t o wi n d - u p t h e i r c o a c h businesses earlier this year amid the coronaviru­s pandemic.

But the name has been acquired by employee-owned Alfa Leisureple­x Group, whose other brands i ncl ude Al f a Travel and Leisureple­x Hotels.

The shop has opened in Princes Mall having previously been based in Strathmore House.

Emma Russell, managing director of Alfa Leisureple­x Group said: “We are delighted to be bringing this iconic name back and to be able to welcome some of the former team back as employee owners.

“D a v i d Ur q u h a r t T r a v e l f i t s perfectly into our expansion plan, as the heartlands of David Urquhart Travel are areas where Alfa Travel does not currently pick up.

“We h a v e b e e n w e l c o m i n g D a v i d Ur q u h a r t c u s t o me r s t o our Leisureple­x hotels for many years, so we know that the David Urquhart Travel customers enjoy our Leisureple­x Hotels, where our fantastic employee owners go that extra mile to make memories for our guests.

“We are also pleased to announce that Clare McFadden will lead the team as operations manager, based in East Kilbride.

“Clare, whose knowledge and passion for David Urquhart Travel built up over 20 years of ser vice will be integral to bringing these outstandin­g holidays back.”

A spokesman for EK, East Kilbride said they were confident the new s t ore would be a huge hi t wi t h visitors to the centre.
