McCall keen to get started again
Niamh McCall has set her sights on a top four finish in the Vitality Netball Superleague this season after signing back on for a third year at Strathclyde Sirens.
McCall, who is a Performance Scholar at the University of Strathclyde, where she is undertaking a degree in sports engineering, hopes the team can take the momentum from last season into this campaign.
The 20-year-old from Strathaven said: “I think we’re definitely aiming for top four, because we haven’t hit there yet.
“We want to do better than last season, to just keep getting better in each game, and to focus on it a game at a time.
“I feel like, as a team, our momentum was starting to build last season. We had a lot of confidence, so lockdown was a bit frustrating, but everyone was affected and it was the right decision.”
McCall is excited about teaming back up with the other girls, but says things will be quite different for a while.
“We have a really strong team, an exciting team, so we finally want to be tested in pretty much all of the games this season. We’re excited to see what we can bring to the table.
“I don’t know when we’ll get the team together as a 10 or 12. Just now we’re training with Scotland Thistles so we are on court and it’s great to be back and shooting indoors, which is also nice.
“That makes a huge difference, because we haven’t been able to do that for months. I had been doing ball work off a wall, so even having someone to pass to who can actually catch a ball is nice, and seeing all the girls again is fab.”
