EK firm keeps emergency response team on the road
An East Kilbride business has used its expertise in cleaning and infection control to help keep an emergency response team moving in the COVID pandemic.
Plover Hygiene have been working in partnership with Strathclyde 4x4 Response to ensure that volunteers can respond safely to any potential call-outs.
Strathclyde 4x4 Response work alongside emergency services and other organisations by providing experienced volunteer off-road drivers to assist in times of need.
Plover was established in 2017 by local lads Joe Ritchie and Joe Cameron and carries out a wide range of commercial cleaning and implements infection control procedures.
They are both Biorisk Advisory CouncilTrainedTechnicians.
Joe Cameron joined Strathclyde 4x4
Response last year and he and his partner decided it was vital to help the organisation – which has branches up and down the country – during the pandemic.
Moving people had to be stopped in the pandemic and the organisation concentrated on moving goods.
This included providing prescription deliveries.
But with the help of Plover, safe practices have been put in place to help them move people, such as transporting those in need of assistance to vaccine appointments.
The two Joes helped with risk assessments, helping find the right products , delivering them and providing training to the organisation.
Strathclyde 4x4 Response also provide logistical support during adverse weather conditions such as getting nurses and other medics to where they need to be.
Joe Ritchie said:“We’ve been trained and equipped to provide infection control cleaning for a number of years, well before the pandemic we are facing just now.
“We are passionate about doing things properly and following well-established science instead of the latest fads.
“We were delighted to be able to help Strathclyde 4x4 Response develop their plans for working safely through the pandemic and we would urge any other organisation or business to get in touch for honest advice on their own situation.”
Plover mainly operates in central Scotland but will travel elsewhere if needed.
They stepped in to help a Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre in Inverness after they were broken in to.
Plover cleaned and disinfected the premises to allow them to get back up and running.
