Pupils fly the flag for house builders

- ANDREA LAMBROU

Creative Crosshouse Primary School pupils took part in a flag designing competition with the winning entry flying high over a new East Kilbride housing development.

Taylor Wimpey West Scotland challenged P5 and P6 pupils to design a flag to welcome customers and visitors to the sales information centre and show homes at its Benthall Farm development in Lindsayfield.

And the winning design by Andrew Bulman of P6 has been produced into a flag that now proudly flies at the entrance to the development to provide a warm and colourful welcome to everyone visiting Benthall Farm.

Andrew won a £50 book voucher, and recently visited the development to see his flag flying high.

The standard of the entries was so good that four additional entries were also chosen to form part of additional signage at the development to welcome visitors, and each child has received a £20 book voucher for their efforts.

And children thoroughly enjoyed rising to the challenge.

Head teacher Mrs Murray said: “Having the opportunity to design a flag to welcome new visitors was an unusual challenge.

“The children enjoyed tackling their brief to create a bold and colourful design, and the judges found it hard to choose a winner due to the quality of all the designs entered.

“The flag looks great and it is a lovely connection between our school and the local Taylor Wimpey development at Benthall Farm.”

Audrey Ross, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland said:“It has been our pleasure to work with Crosshouse Primary on this project to strengthen and extend our links once again with the local community of East Kilbride.”
