YM’s frustration as lead slips at Milngavie

-

East Kilbride YM’s Caledonian League side were forced to settle for a share of the spoils at a wind-swept Milngavie Wanderers on Saturday after a topsy-turvy tussle.

Graeme Robertson’s side came from 2-0 down to lead 4-2 in the clash, but lost two late goals to end up taking just a point.

The home side, with the gale force wind at their backs, took an early lead and doubled it just before the interval.

YM were all over the Milngavie goal from the restart, with home keeper

Richardson keeping his side in front with some really good saves.

However, midway through the half Jordan Fletcher sent a low shot from the edge of the area into the net.

Craig Fry’s wind-assisted free-kick eluded the keeper to bring the side level, before Ryan Kelly and Fletcher again increased YM’s lead to 4-2.

Milngavie scored a hugely controversial third goal near the end when the referee ignored a blatant push on the YM player allowing the home side through to score.

YM were livid and lost all concentration at this decision and were penalised deep into injury time. A free kick brought an almighty goal mouth scramble, with the ball ending in the net to square the match.

This Saturday YM travel to Stenhousemuir Community in a league match.

Meanwhile, YM’s GGPL side have the league title in their own hands now after coming from 2-0 down to defeat league leaders St. Patricks 4-3.

Kyle Rankin netted another hat trick with Geo Paton also on the score sheet.

They presently trail the league leaders by 11 points, but have six games in hand.

This Saturday they have a local derby with EKRR in the quarter final of the President’s League Cup, which is scheduled to be played at Kirktonholme at 2pm.

Finally, YM 35s continued with their pre-season friendlies beating Eaglesham 7-2. David Winters and Kieran Downs both hit hat-tricks, while RobbieWinters grabbed the other goal.
