ARDROSSAN WINTON ROVERS ......... 2 EAST KILBRIDE THISTLE ...................... 4

- Andy McGilvray

Russell Craig says East Kilbride Thistle have set a marker for themselves after beating Ardrossan Winton Rovers 4-2, which moved them up to 11th in the West of Scotland League Conference C table.

Thistle were 2-1 down at half-time, but goals from Aaron Connolly, Jack McKenna, Danny Hashim and Andrew Skinner gave them a crucial three points at Winton Park.

Co-boss Craig says that proved Thistle can play after last week’s disappointing result against Lanark United, and wants more of the same when they travel to Yoker Athletic on Saturday.

Thistle are two places and 10 points behind their hosts, but with four games in hand.

Craig said:“It was a really good reaction from last week’s defeat so I’m really pleased with them, it was a good team effort.

“We had a bad game last week against Lanark, but Saturday showed that we can actually still play football, that we’re not a bad team.

“They’ve set a marker for themselves for this weekend coming.

“We go to Yoker, who will be on a high after their victory in the Scottish Junior Cup quarter-finals [a 1-0 win at Dyce].

“We know that’s not going to be an easy place to go to, they’re round about us in the league.

“If we play like we did on Saturday we’ll give ourselves a chance, and if we don’t then we’ve let ourselves down.”

Craig says the win on Saturday could have been even more emphatic.

“I thought we probably edged it in the first half, even though we went in 2-1 down,”said Craig.

“We were playing with a lot of confidence. I think Ardrossan had two chances and scored both of them, which was poor from our point of view.

“In the second half they were on top of us a wee bit for the first five or 10 minutes, and then we dominated.

“We scored four good goals and could probably have scored a few more, so we were delighted with it.”

Craig added:“In the last couple of weeks we’ve played some good teams.

“Lanark are playing for every point they can get and before that we were playing teams who were a lot higher up in the league than us.

“We know we can play football like we did on Saturday and that’s the most pleasing thing.

“The guys who played on Saturday have played themselves into the team.”
