Eaglesham Beer Festival set to return
After more than three years, the much-loved Eaglesham Beer Festival is set to return this summer.
Organisers of the award-winning festival were gearing up for their sixth year in 2020 when the pandemic struck.
That threw Scotland’s festival calendar into disarray, with no event escaping the clutches of coronavirus.
But thankfully, the community event is returning this July, with tickets bought for what would’ve been the 2020 event “valid for use” on the day.
Organiser Fraser Wilson told the News: “It’s been a difficult few years, that’s for sure. The event is something we absolutely love putting on and it is well-loved in the local and wider community, so we were reluctant to cancel it completely when the pandemic hit.
“What we did was defer at all stages, hoping we could maybe move the June event to October 2020, or the following January.
“All of a sudden we were looking at the summer of 2021 and then more restrictions came in and it was autumn 2021 we were looking at once more.
“The main problem we had with trying to force it through was we had seen first hand the effects of coronavirus on families, communities and our NHS.
“We live in the village and have family and friends in the village, so we just couldn’t see a responsible way to run an event of our size and risk bringing a high level of cases of the virus into our community.
“We were close to pulling the plug altogether, but we’re glad we held our nerve and are delighted that there is something for the community to look forward to again this summer.”
Last time out, the event was crowned Scotland’s Best Food and Drink event at the Scottish Outdoor Leisure Awards.
All tickets purchased for the 2020 event will be eligible for the July 9 celebration this year. A small number of tickets will be made available closer to the time.
