All the fun of the fair

- NICOLA FINDLAY

A church fair saw the community gather together once again.

Claremont Parish, in St Leonards, wanted to reach out after the pandemic affected everyone lives and the work of the church.

And the fair proved a huge success with plenty of fun to keep the whole family amused.

There were special appearances from Captain Jack Sparrow, Belle from Beauty and the Beast and Elsa from Frozen. The fair also had stalls galore with everything from bric-a-brac to plants as well as face painting and a bouncy castle.

Rev Gordon Palmer was delighted by how well the day went and thanked all the organisers and the congregation for pulling together to make it such a success.

He told the News: “It was a great day and there was a real buzz of excitement and we were really pleased to see so many people come along. We wanted to raise the profile of the church and let folk know that we are still here for them after the two years everyone has been through.

“We are grateful to everyone that attended and took part and it really was an excellent effort by all the congregation to manage as many stalls as they did – a lot of planning and effort was involved.

“But everyone really seemed to enjoy the day and pulling together to get out teeth into something again.”

The church were planning a fair before Covid hit and plans had to be cancelled two years ago.

And although not organised as a fundraiser, the church also managed to raise some extra cash on the day.

Local emergency services also attended to show their support and East Kilbride Pipe Band opened the fair.
