Offer to Young Scots is sound as a pound

- MICHAEL PRINGLE

Young Scot card holders in Lanarkshire can get out and about and explore Scotland’s historic sites and houses for just £1.

Thanks to the relaunch of an initiative between National Trust for Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland, and Historic Houses Scotland, holders of the Young Scot National Entitlement Card can visit hundreds of sites and buildings of historical interest across the country for the nominal fee.

Originally introduced in 2018, the campaign is encouraging young people to get out and explore the historic sites that the country has to offer.

They range from Corehouse near Lanark to Inveraray Castle, or JM Barrie’s birthplace to Dunrobin Castle in Sutherland.

It means that National Entitlement card holders can access over 600 historic sites for £1.

With free bus travel on offer to card holders up to those aged up to 22 years old, there’s nothing holding young people back from getting out and engaging with Scotland’s rich heritage.

With natural and built sites across the country there’s an experience for everyone to enjoy, from stunning landscapes through to castles, superb gardens, historic dwellings, and significant places, such as the battlefields on which the nation’s future turned.

Card holders will be able to visit 100 National Trust for Scotland properties, such as the spectacular Culzean Castle in Ayrshire and the carefully restored Gladstone’s Land in Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.

It also enables access to over 70 Historic Environment Scotland properties across the length and breadth of the country, including iconic sites such as Edinburgh Castle and Stirling Castle.

In addition to offering £1 entry to all National Trust for Scotland and Historic Environment Scotland sites, card holders can also access the following Historic Houses Scotland sites this year: Inveraray Castle, Ballindalloch Castle, Blair Castle,

Hopetoun House, Cawdor Castle, Floors Castle and Drummond Castle.

And in Lanarkshire there’s also Corehouse near Lanark – its estate forms part of the New Lanark World Heritage Site.

Young Scot Card holders aged 11-25 will be able to access over 600 sites across the country.

Since the scheme first started in 2018 sites including Crathes Castle, Pollok House and Brodick Castle have proven to be most popular with Young Scot National Entitlement Card holders.
