‘She has been an inspiration’
East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow MP, Dr Lisa Cameron, has led local tributes to The Queen on her Platinum Jubilee.
This year The Queen will become the first British monarch to celebrate a platinum jubilee. There has been a whole host of events taking place in the run up to the Platinum Jubilee CentralWeekend which runs from
June 2 to 5. As well as large-scale celebrations – including a star-studded Platinum Party at the Palace – local authorities, schools, businesses and community groups have also been invited to mark the milestone where they live.
Dr Cameron said: “I am Vice Chair of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022 All Party Parliamentary Group and I am currently arranging a special Platinum Jubilee Event celebration for veterans across our constituency.
“Her Majesty the Queen has given incredible service during the past 70 years and I will be supporting events locally and nationally in recognition of this very special occasion.”
East Kilbride MSP Collette Stevenson said:“It’s only right we acknowledge and celebrate Her Majesty’s service of 70 years. The extra bank holiday to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will be welcomed by many, and I hope folk enjoy themselves over the weekend.”
Central Scotland MSP Graham Simpson said:“It is absolutely right that we celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee. People will do that in their own way and there are events throughout the country.
“The Queen has been our monarch for 70 years, which is incredible. She has been an inspiration throughout.
“It has been the privilege of my life to be at the Scottish Parliament twice when she has opened a session. We are very lucky to have her as our monarch.”
