An East Kilbride schoolgirl has made it through to the next round of Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) after a musicals ensemble that she is part of wowed judges.
Katie Francis, 12, from Blantyre, who attends Calderglen High, is part of the Movies to Musicals kids’ cast made up of 23 youngsters from across Scotland.
She recently took part in live Movies to Musicals shows and the group impressed judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and David Walliams in their audition on Saturday night’s show, going through to the next round. Movies to Musicals had the judges on their feet at the London Palladium with their Aladdinthemed performance and got four votes.
East Kilbride choreographer Rebecca Curbelo Valdivia was also in London with the group.
After their performance, Simon Cowell enthused: “You have surprised us – we liked that.”
He added: “That was actually very clever. The kids are taking over the show this year.”
Fellow judge Amanda Holden added: “It felt like we were watching an entire show.”
Movies to Musicals producer, Ross Gunning, said: “I am so proud of all
the young performers of Movies to Musicals and the energy on that stage was electric. The reaction from the audience and judges was the best I have ever seen as they all jumped to their feet.
“I remember Simon saying this is why we created this show, for homegrown talent like this.
“Alesha said the choreography was amazing.
“We can’t wait for audiences to see these young performers at the East Kilbride Village Theatre on Saturday, September 24, and hope we can sell it out.”
