EK Sports Awards deadline is looming

Time is running out to nominate your local sporting heroes for this year’s East Kilbride Sports Personalit­y of the Year awards.

The glittering prize ceremony is returning for the first time in four years, following a lengthy absence when the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, and it will be held on the evening of Saturday, April 22, at the town’s Village Theatre.

So residents from East Kilbride and the surroundin­g areas are being encouraged to put forward their outstandin­g performers from the last year.

The deadline for entries is Saturday, March 18, and nomination­s can be submitted both online and in person at the John Wright Sports Centre in Calderwood.

Forms are also available in local schools for those looking to put forward names, clubs or teams.

• Adult sports personalit­y of the year;

Junior male sports personalit­y of the

year (under 18 as of January 1, 2022);

• Junior female sports personalit­y of

the year (under 18 as of January 1,

2022);

• Junior male individual of the year (under 12 as of January 1, 2022);

• Junior female individual of the year (under 12 as of January 1, 2022);

• Veteran of the year (50 and over).

In the team categories there are awards for club of the year, senior team of the year, junior team of the year (under 18, as of January 1, 2022), coach of the year, administra­tor of the year and there is also a services to sport award.

The Calderglen High School Jazz Band will be returning to provide entertainm­ent on the night, while awards regular Cliff Smith will also be back to perform his duties as master of ceremonies.
