Cops probe serious assault

-

Police sealed off a block of flats in Westwood to investigate a serious assault.

A heavy police presence had been reported at an address in Franklin Place for four days from Tuesday, March 14, after a 28-year-old man was seriously assaulted there.

The incident is believed to have taken place on Thursday, March 9, or Friday, March 10, but was not reported to police at the time.

Police Scotland moved to assure the public there was“no risk to the wider community”.

A large area around the flats, directly opposite East Milton Primary School, was taped off while officers carried out their enquiries.

Neighbours were unable to offer any details about the incident but said police had been guarding the scene since the Tuesday.

One man told us last Friday: “I’ve been watching the police activity from my balcony wondering what’s happened. They taped the block off yesterday and forensics arrived this morning. I hope no one has died but it looks that way or something serious.”

A police spokesperson said: “Officers are investigating after a 28-year-old man was admitted to University Hospital Hairmyres, East Kilbride, with serious injuries on Tuesday, March 14.
