The Rolly warm up for cup clash with thriller

-

EKRR earned the derby bragging rights last week after coming out on top in a six-goal thriller with Eaglesham.

The Rolly ran out 4-2 winners on April 5 to go into a big Scottish

Amateur Cup semi-final this Monday night on a real high.

They took the lead in six minutes after the referee awarded a penalty for hand ball in the Eaglesham area, and Jonny Diack stepped up to slot the ball into the net from 12 yards.

But 10 minutes later, Eaglesham hit back when their centre forward slotted home inside the box.

This spurred the visitors on and after 35 minutes their hard work was rewarded after an amazing left foot shot from Andy Brown found its way into the bottom right hand corner of the Eaglesham net, making it 2-1.

Eaglesham then tried to gain the upper-hand in midfield, but a great display from Rolly midfield stalwart Mark Brown, picking up scraps and winning tackle after tackle, helped the

Rolly to remain in control of the match leading into the half-time break.

After the restart, Eaglesham fought to get back into the match and levelled once again after 65 minutes when they managed to turn the ball home, following a goalmouth scramble.

In 75 minutes, a free kick was fired into the Eaglesham penalty box and Scott Woods rose above the Eaglesham defence and headed the ball beyond the Eaglesham keeper, into the back of the net to put The Rolly back in the driving seat.

Five minutes later, Brown lobbed the ball beyond the Eaglesham keeper from a difficult angle outside the box and his fine finish ensured they left with all three points.

The Rolly can now look forward to their cup semi-final clash with Steins Thistle on Monday night.

The tie is being played at New Douglas Park, the home of Hamilton Academical, and kick-off there is 7.30pm.
