The R olly overcome EKYM in derby clash

-

EKRR claimed the bragging rights against local rivals EKYM last week with a 3-0 victory at the Murray pitches in the Greater Glasgow Premier League.

Both sides were desperate for the win and the early play saw each team probing for an opening, and it only took five minutes for the Rolly to find the net, but Sam Watson’s strike was deemed to be offside.

However, it was Watson again who found the net in 25 minutes and this time it counted to put The Rolly 1-0 up.

YM pushed to get back into the match, but the Rolly attack meant their goalmouth was constantly under attack.

On the half-hour mark, a free kick from Ryan McParland was met by a YM defender who headed the ball into his own net to double EKRR’s lead.

After the restart both teams had chances that they were unable to convert, with both goalkeepers pulling off some great saves.

Then, in 70 minutes, Stevie Copeland put the match beyond YM, netting from close range to make it 3-0.

On Saturday, the R olly suffered their first league defeat this season losing 2-1 away to St Patrick’s AFC and they sit second in the league, four adrift of leaders GSCAmateurs and with three games in hand over them.

On Monday night, EKRR hammered Craigneuk 8-0 to reach the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup.

• Meanwhile, EKYM’s Caledonian

League team travelled to Dunblane last Saturday to play the local team in the quarter final of the William Turner

Cup and returned with a very creditable 5-2 win.

Goals from James Cameron, Ryan Kelly, Sean Winter and Evan Duffy gave the YM a 4-2 advantage at half time, before Kyle Rankin sealed it in style, running on to a tremendous through ball from goalkeeper Fraser Campbell and chipping the opposition goalkeeper from 30 yards.

This weekend, the Caley team travel to Greenfield 4G in Shettleston to play St Joseph’s in the semi-finals. Kick-off is 2pm.
