Festive artists design cracking Xmas cards

- ANDREA LAMBROU

Pupils at Jackton Primary and Our Lady of Lourdes Primary have been letting their creativity shine by designing their very own Christmas cards as part of a festive competition.

Barratt Developments Scotland – which includes Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes – challenged pupils from both schools to embrace their inner artist, with the winning drawings being transformed into physical packs for residents at the housebuilder’s sites.

After judging the entries, nine-year-old Murray Davidson from primary five was crowned champion at Our Lady of Lourdes and 11-year-old Chelsea Wing Yin Lui from primary seven was awarded first place at Jackton Primary.

Murray sketched a colourful, festive house complete with Santa and his reindeers on the roof and Chelsea drew a cosy home in front of an evergreen backdrop with fir trees. Both pupils won £100 worth of Smyths vouchers.

Estelle Sykes, sales director at Barratt Developments West Scotland, said:

“Murray and Chelsea’s drawings really captured the festive spirit and we’re extremely proud to showcase these on our cards this year. We hope the competition has helped spread a little magic within the local schools and surrounding communities ahead of Christmas.”

Pupils from primary four to seven entered the competition from Jackton while Our Lady of Lourdes had primary five taking part.

Laura Layden, depute head teacher at Jackton Primary, said: “We always encourage our students to be as creative as possible so this was the perfect way to end the year here at Jackton Primary. We’re sure the winners look forward to seeing their fantastic designs appear on the front of Christmas cards.”

Elizabeth Shields, principal teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes, added: “The P5 children were motivated by the generosity of Barratt Developments and taking part in this competition enabled them to display the four capacities of successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. All the entries were fantastic and our winner was delighted.”
