MSP encouraged by benefits survey
East Kilbride MSP Collette Stevenson has commended the work of Social Security Scotland, as new figures show the positive experiences of benefit recipients overall, applying for and in receiving those benefits.
Figures from Social Security Scotland’s Client Survey reveal that, of those in receipt of benefits in South Lanarkshire:
■ Overall, how would you rate your experience with Social Security Scotland? Respondents said their overall experience was very good/good (88 per cent)
■ Overall, how would you rate your experience of filling in and submitting your application? Respondents said their experience applying for benefits was very good/good (87 per cent)
■ Overall, how would you rate your experience of receiving benefit payments from Social Security Scotland? Respondents said their experience receiving benefits was very good/good (93 per cent)
The survey found that 97 per cent of recipients of people across Scotland received their payments on time, 90 per cent said their experience with staff was ‘very good’or‘good’and 93 per cent feel they were treated with kindness.
Ms Stevenson told the EK News: “These new figures show the real difference that devolving social security powers can make to the day-to-day lives of people in East Kilbride and across South Lanarkshire.
“The Scottish Government has built a welfare system rooted in dignity, fairness, and respect; with the aim to help and support the most vulnerable.
“I am pleased that benefit recipients in South Lanarkshire have an overwhelmingly positive experience with Scotland’s devolved social security system – people should always feel encouraged and respected in getting support.”
