Revenge is sweet when it’s 9 to 5

Eros Musical Society are bringing 9 to 5 The Musical to East Kilbride Village Theatre.
Based on the motion picture of the same name, 9 to 5 The Musical is a sidesplitting, high-energy story of friendship and revenge.
Set in the chauvinist atmosphere of early 1970s America, the story centres on three female office workers – Violet, the longsuffering office manager, continually passed by for promotion; Doralee, the boss’s secretary, who suffers unending propositioning; and Judy, who’s just started work after being jilted by her husband and is trying to find her way in this new environment.
Their mutual problem is Franklin Hart, the boss, with his never-ending sexist, egotistical, lying and hypocritical ways. The three women become friends, and during one eventful evening hilariously describe how they’d love to get their revenge on him.
Events then take a surprising twist. Will Violet,
Doralee and Judy win the day, and turn the tables on him? Or will Hart, their ever-sleazy boss, carry on as before?
With music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, this production follows Eros’s extremely popular, sold-out performances of the Sound of Music at the Village Theatre in March 2023.
Tracy Fraser, president of EROS, said: “We are really excited to be performing 9 to 5. It was fantastic to sell out our production of The Sound of Music last year, and 9 to 5 takes us in a completely new direction.
“It’s loads of fun, a truly side-splitting, high-octane story of friendship and revenge, set within the sexist era of 1970s America. Don’t take too long to buy your ticket.”
The show runs from March 5-9. Curtain up 7.30pm with a 2.30pm Saturday matinee.
Tickets cost £22/£20 concession and are available to book online via quaytickets.com/ sllcboxoffice or by calling East Kilbride Arts Centre on 01355 261000.
