Nowater forsome homes
Water supplies were last week restored to dozens of homes in East Kilbride that were left without water in sub-zero temperatures.
Scottish Water defrosted a frozen valve on the water network which caused an interruption to the normal supply for customers in the G75 postcode.
The mercury plummeted to -7C in the town overnight from Wednesday, January 17, and residents were warned they may have no water supply or discoloured water or low water pressure the following morning till engineers located the problem.
In a statement on their website last week, Scottish Water said: “Customers in East Kilbride have reported an interruption to their water supply. We are currently on the way to investigate the issue and are aiming to be on site as soon as possible.
“While we investigate, please be aware that you may experience no water supply or low/intermittent water pressure. You may also experience discoloured water.”
Teams completed work to defrost the valve and restore a normal service.
A spokesman said last week: “Water supply is being restored but you may experience low/intermittent pressure issues, which could be due to an airlock in the pipes. Our ‘Unplanned Interruption to Your Water Supply’ factsheet will help you to resolve this issue.
“You might also experience discoloured water. This is normal after such an incident. Our factsheet on discoloured water provides information on how to resolve this type of issue.
“We would like to thank all affected customers for their patience and co-operation during this incident.”
