NEXT TWO ARE KEYTOTITLE

Kennedy is expecting a tougher test in Fife

- ANDY MCGILVRAY

East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy says the next two games are key to landing the Lowland League title, and expects a tougher game at Cowdenbeath than their 6-0 cup win there last weekend.

Kilby head back to Central Park on league duty on Saturday, before hosting Tranent on Tuesday, and Kennedy reckons a win either way at K-Park could result in an unassailable lead, or see their opponents brought right back into the title race.

Kennedy’s side are currently top on 57 points, 14 ahead of

Tranent in fifth, who have two games in hand, and the East Lothian side head to Gretna 2008 this weekend.

The Kilby gaffer said: “We’re still in a battle for the league, and we felt it was important on Saturday to keep momentum and confidence going.

“I’d rather have had a league game on Saturday, because I think it will massively change how Cowdenbeath will approach it this Saturday.

“Anybody thinking we’ve won 6-0 and will go up again and win comfortably, I don’t think that will happen.

“I think it will be a lot tighter this week.

“Then we’ve got a massive game in the league against Tranent.

“If we can win that we would go 17 clear, which puts us in a really strong position, though they would have two games in hand.

“If we lose it and they win their games in hand, then they’re back in it, five points behind, so it’s a massive game.

“But we have to go to Cowdenbeath and concentrate on getting the three points, then Tuesday will be a massive night.

“Whoever wins it will take a massive advantage.”

Kennedy is still looking to bring in a central defender, due to serious injuries to Chris

McGowan and Cammy Eadie, but that will see others leave K-Park in the next few days.

Kennedy said: “Chris McGowan has a really bad injury so it looks like his season is done.

“Cammy Deas maybe also has a bad injury, so we’re potentially looking at bringing a centre-half in.

“If we can maybe get one, then one or two will probably go out in the next seven days.

“One player is just about to conclude a deal to Gartcairn, and then another one or two might go out on loan.

“If something comes up we’ll do it, and if not we’re happy to go with what we have.”
