Cops find drug stash in car
A self-confessed drug dealer was caught with cocaine worth £9000 in his car.
Police officers also found polythene bags and digital scales coated in white powder when they stopped Brian Black’s BMW in East Kilbride.
Black, 29, of Kentmere Drive, East Kilbride, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week.
He admitted being concerned in the supply of the Class A drug on Murray Road, Telford Road, Queensway and elsewhere on April 5 last year.
Co-accused Jade Watson, 25, of the town’s North Berwick Crescent, had her not guilty plea to the charge accepted.
Scott O’Connor, prosecuting, said officers were on plain clothes patrol in an unmarked police vehicle in Telford Road when their attention was drawn to the blue BMW shortly before 7pm.
He told the court: “Black made his way from the car to a block of flats and returned a short time later, with the engine still running.
“Police followed the vehicle and it stopped at the McDonald’s drive-thru on Queensway. As the car exited they pulled it over.
“While speaking to the accused, the officers detected a smell of cannabis and they detained him for a search.
“They found a wash bag that contained a tub of white powder. Digital scales with traces of white powder and a quantity of polythene bags were also recovered.
“Black was arrested and interviewed. He made full admissions and described himself as a drug dealer. He said his partner had no knowledge of drugs being in the vehicle.”
Defence solicitor Andy Thomson said his client has been in no further trouble since being released on bail following an initial court appearance in May.
Sheriff Adrian Cottam deferred sentence until next month for background reports. He told Black: “This was a substantial amount. I want to see if there are alternative ways to deal with you other than a custodial sentence.”
